Prevention of disease transmission is a core tenet of the practice of veterinary medicine. Veterinarians are very likely to examine and treat equine patients that pose a risk for disease transmission to equids and other animals, and in some cases, pose a risk of disease transmission to humans. Therefore, the AAEP recommends that all equine practices have a biosecurity plan in place that is actively administered and adhered to by all practice personnel.
Approved by AAEP board of directors in 2022.
