As veterinarians, we have incredibly important roles that come with demanding schedules and intense feelings of responsibility. These feelings can, over time, impact us mentally and physically.
The AAEP Wellness Committee seeks to support the health and wellbeing of current and future equine veterinarians by offering you access to tools, education and sincere connection.
We encourage you to use the following resources and the AAEP Healthy Practice Member Assistance Program to get help with issues like work-life balance, mental and physical health, compassion fatigue, parenting, financial health and more.
Get Help Now: If you believe that you’re in crisis, please get help immediately. The 988 Lifeline is a national network of local crisis centers that provides free and confidential emotional support to people in suicidal crisis or emotional distress 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in the United States. Call 988 for immediate assistance.
Member Assistance Program
The Healthy Practice Member Assistance Program is an AAEP-sponsored benefit that offers the support and resources you need to address personal or work-related challenges and concerns. It’s confidential and free to you and your household family members.
Two types of services are provided: counseling and consultation sessions and online resources. AAEP members now have the option of providing these services to all practice employees at the greatly reduced AAEP program rate.
Currently services are only available to DVM and student members in the United States and Canada due to available service providers.
