Telehealth is an indispensable collaborative tool for equine veterinarians to enhance diagnostic testing, consultation with experts, patient treatment and monitoring, as well as owner communication. Most commonly, a veterinarian with a valid veterinary-client-patient relationship (VCPR) assumes responsibility not only for flow of information and obtaining client consent, but also for medical judgments regarding the health of the patient. The AAEP supports the establishment of the VCPR as defined by the American Veterinary Medical Association and such a relationship cannot be established solely by electronic means.
