During the AAEP Virtual Wednesday Round Table on “Ethical Compensation Models in Equine Practice,” the session’s panelists—Drs. Reda, Sam Morello, Mike Pownall and Jim Zeliff—explored the differences between salary and production pay, benefits, internal motivation, the four-day work week and the influence exerted by all of these upon practice culture.
As veterinarians considering “the amount of life” we are willing to exchange for our compensation, we can draw from these conversations by asking ourselves: Does this model of compensation allow me to practice medicine in a way that is consistent with my values?
