Florida Racetrack Practitioner Dr. Scott Hay to Lead the AAEP in 2021

Scott Hay, DVM, president and managing shareholder of Fort Lauderdale, Florida-based racetrack practice Teigland, Franklin and Brokken DVMs, was installed as president of the American Association of Equine Practitioners Dec. 9 during the AAEP’s 66th Annual Convention & Trade Show, held virtually.

A second-generation veterinarian and AAEP member—his father Dr. William Hay was a longtime member and mixed animal practice owner in Ottawa, Kan.—Dr. Hay joined Teigland, Franklin and Brokken soon after graduating from Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1988. His clinical focus is lameness, performance evaluations and purchase examinations.

Dr. Hay serves on the AAEP’s Educational Programs Committee, Finance & Audit Committee and as a veterinary spokesperson for the On Call program. He previously served on the board of directors from 2009-2011, as chair of the Racing Committee and as a member of the Professional Conduct & Ethics Committee.

In addition, he serves on the Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation Advisory Committee and is a member and former chair of the Racing Medication and Testing Consortium’s Scientific Advisory Committee.

“The AAEP has always been a fixture in our practice as there are so many things an organization of this magnitude helps with in your practice life,” said Dr. Hay, who becomes the fourth from his practice to lead the AAEP as president, following Dr. M.B. Teigland in 1961, Dr. Ben Franklin in 2000 and Dr. Tom Brokken in 2006.
