The American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) 2020 Annual Convention & Trade Show will help equine veterinarians adapt to new practice realities and opportunities when the event convenes online beginning Dec. 1. The reimagined convention blends live and on-demand educational sessions, giving practitioners the flexibility to watch and claim continuing education (CE) sessions at their own pace and on their own schedule through June 30, 2021.

Now in its 66th year of providing horse doctors with the latest clinical knowledge to enhance patient health and practice success, the virtual convention will offer more than 100 hours of CE from a distinguished group of presenters representing private practice, research and academia. Educational sessions will encompass a broad range of practical topics, including imaging, lameness, internal medicine, reproduction, neonatology and more.

Attendees will be able to watch on-demand recordings of most educational sessions beginning Dec. 1. Several featured sessions will be presented live during Convention Prime Time, Dec. 5–9; these selected sessions will be available on-demand within 48 hours afterward. Live sessions will include the popular Kester News Hour on Dec. 6 and the Frank J. Milne State-of-the-Art Lecture, delivered by renowned equine anesthesiologist Dr. John Hubbell, on Dec. 9. In addition, a pair of Table Topics, facilitated discussions through which attendees can work through common practices challenges together, will occur live each weekday from Dec. 1–18. All educational sessions, including Table Topics, will remain available for viewing on-demand until June 30, 2021.

Supplementing an exceptional educational program is a virtual trade show comprised of more than 100 companies showcasing the latest technologies and services for practice. From Dec. 6–9, attendees can visit virtual booths to learn about special offers, watch live demonstrations and speak directly with company representatives.

Helping maintain a sense of community and normalcy during what has been an unusual year, attendees will be able to catch up with old classmates during alumni receptions conducted via Zoom during Convention Prime Time as well as participate in a virtual 5K/10K fun run/walk that can be completed in the weeks leading up to and through the virtual convention.

Veterinary students can advance their knowledge in essential practice areas during “core concept” educational sessions. In addition, students can obtain career advice from seasoned practitioners as well as meet with “AAEP Avenues” practices via Zoom about internship and externship opportunities during Career Week, Dec. 14–18.

It has never been more affordable or convenient to attend the AAEP annual convention. The registration rate for AAEP members is $349; the rate for students, residents and interns is $75. To register for the virtual convention or view the educational program, visit convention.aaep.org. The event is open to AAEP members and non-members, and registration will remain open until Dec. 31, granting access to on-demand recordings of the entire educational program until June 30, 2021.
