An equine veterinarian representing the American Association of Equine Practitioners’ “On Call” program will assist NBC Sports with horse-health information during the June 8 and 9 live racing telecasts at Belmont Park in Elmont, N.Y.  Equine surgeon Larry Bramlage, DVM, MS, will be on hand to provide timely health reports to the media regarding the equine athletes in the Belmont Stakes as well as all races telecast live by NBC Sports and NBC Sports Network.

As an additional resource to journalists, the AAEP’s online “Media Guide to Equine Sport” provides a medical index, illustrations, a glossary of terms and other references regarding the care of the equine athlete. The guide is available at http://www.aaep.org/media_guide_to_equine_sport.htm.

The “On Call” program serves all nationally televised equestrian events.  More than 25 AAEP-member veterinarians in the United States and Canada share their veterinary expertise as “On Call” spokespersons. The program received the 2008 Special Eclipse Award for its contributions to Thoroughbred racing. For information about the On Call program, contact Sally Baker, AAEP director of marketing and public relations, at (859) 233-0147 or sbaker@aaep.org.

The American Association of Equine Practitioners, headquartered in Lexington, Ky., was founded in 1954 as a non-profit organization dedicated to the health and welfare of the horse.  Currently, the AAEP reaches more than 5 million horse owners through its nearly 10,000 members worldwide and is actively involved in ethics issues, practice management, research and continuing education in the equine veterinary profession and horse industry.
