The internship opportunities at Desert Pines Equine (DPE) have been designed to provide the hands-on learning experience and knowledge-based growth needed by first year veterinarians to become skilled general practitioners or advance to residency programs. Interns will rotate with each doctor, until released to see appointments independently. Rotation experience will include providing direct care for hospitalized patients, assisting with performing surgical procedures, performing or assisting with diagnostic procedures, running anesthesia, and accompanying veterinarians in the field in order to learn a variety of approaches to diagnosis, treatment, and communication. Through the established relationships of our veterinarians with clients, interns will have enhanced opportunities to practice newly acquired skills.

Requirements:
Completion in good standing of a DVM or VMD degree at an accredited university
Passing NAVLE
Veterinary license & accreditation in the state of Nevada
All requirements are due prior to the beginning of the internship

February through the end of May we have an active reproductive caseload accompanied by neonates and an increase in colic cases. DPE has a strong focus on performance horse medicine which continues throughout the year.

Las Vegas is a melting pot of multidiscipline events which gives us the opportunity to work with a wide array of equine athletes. Providing coverage for large scale events allows us to work closely with contestant's veterinarians at home to maintain the continuity of care putting the best interest of the horse first. We maintain a strong relationship with our local farriers working collaboratively to maintain sound athletes. In addition we work closely with an Ophthalmologist from the Las Vegas Specialty Center when difficult cases are presented

Minimum 1:1 Technician : DVM ratio with an additional in clinic technical staff to care for hospitalized treatments and assist DVM/Technician teams. Not currently staffed 24 hrs though technicians are responsible for night treatments and are available to assist veterinarian on call as needed.
