About Us: Loomis Basin Equine Medical Group consists of approximately 40 doctors working out of 10 different locations. The main hospital sits on 28 acres east of Sacramento in the Sierra foothills close to skiing, the American river, and various state and national parks. The other locations include Napa Valley, North Coast, the San Francisco Bay Area, and Los Angeles. We are a growing medical group with the main hospital facility housing 80-130 horses depending on the time of year and includes climate controlled ICU stalls, isolation stalls, and various barns, paddocks and pastures. The hospital employs over 40 technicians that help with the ambulatory, surgery, and ICU patients. LBEMG is known for its continuous learning culture, investment in new technologies and medical excellence.
The internship rotates through surgery, lameness, ambulatory, reproduction, anesthesia/ICU, and internal medicine/emergency medicine.
Interns are responsible for the hospitalized patients as well as assisting with receiving of cases under the different services and clinicians. Interns have rotating emergency duties and assist the nighttime emergency doctor if needed. Case rounds occur each morning between 8:00 and 8:45am. There are educational rounds for the interns every Wednesday morning and journal article presentation every other Friday for all doctors in the practice.
We offer a hybrid internship position for graduates who are not interested in a traditional rotating internship program. This program combines early intensive training at our hospital in Penryn followed by time spent in ambulatory practice at another one of our locations in California. Hybrid interns typically spend their first 2 months at the Penryn location developing a great foundation working on emergencies, lameness cases, dentistry, and other parts of equine practice. They then move to another one of our locations to work as an associate with continued mentoring and support.
