We are searching for an energetic, team oriented intern who is ready to expand their equine knowledge and take their skills to new heights. Our hospital is fully equipped for surgical/ medical/reproduction procedures . West Coast Equine is located in a beautiful area of southern California close to beaches and hiking. We have a full technical and clerical staff that works closely with the interns and provides all aspects of support. We all work together as a team to provide excellent patient management, client satisfaction and guidance, and a collaborative effort from case start to finish. We welcome the interns as veterinarians, colleagues and new sources of new information. Our interns participate in daily rounds, procedures, surgeries and emergencies. As our interns gain confidence, they may do ranch calls and emergencies independently. We strive for our interns to develop strong procedural skills and evaluations and deepen their knowledge in all areas of equine medicine, surgery and sports medicine. We are busy with colics, elective surgeries, sports medicine (complete with MRI) , and have an active internal medicine and reproduction case load. The interns are guaranteed to solidify their diagnostic and therapeutic plans, and gain confidence in case management, which will allow them to explore many areas of equine medicine. We also encourage them to communicate effectively and compassionately with clients, to stimulate an interest in pursuing a rewarding career in equine veterinary medicine, and to practice effective teamwork with colleagues and staff. Also, we formulate plans to understand the business aspect of veterinary medicine and to balance the demands of their career with their personal life. Weekly radiology rounds also provide an academic aspect that is valuable in learning and case research/management. We have a busy student/extern schedule and the interns get to try their hand at teaching what they have learned. Our interns leave us with confidence, advanced knowledge and skills are ready for their next career step in equine veterinary medicine. Come join us for a fun, active, busy internship and develop friendships that will last years. Visit us on Facebook page, Instagram or website and contact us for more information.
Our internship has rotating start dates and we welcome applications all year.
The ideal intern candidate should have excellent horsemanship skills, great communication skills and a positive team oriented outlook. A degree in veterinary medicine is required and passage of the NAVLE is preferred. We will consider applicants from a non US accredited school if the applicant is eligible for J1 or H1B visa.

Additional information about the internship program
We really enjoy spending time with our interns and have become close friends, mentors and colleagues. We are very proud of their accomplishments and dedication to the profession. It is wonderful to see our past interns rise to become competent, admired veterinarians excelling in academic and private equine practice. Some have found their way to small animal and regulatory careers, and we know that the year they spent with us in equine practice gave them a well rounded, exciting and challenging experience.
