Position Full Description

Tryon Equine Hospital offers a one year rotating internship time spent in the hospital and field service.

Tryon Equine is a full service referral and performance horse hospital with a strong field service and horse show component located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge mountains in North Carolina in a very active equestrian area and in close proximity to the Tryon International Equestrian Center. In the hospital, we have Board Certified Specialists in Surgery and Medicine. Services offered include MRI, digital radiography, digital ultrasonography including cardiology, neurologic evaluations including myelography, Neonatal intensive care, Isolation facility and full surgical and regenerative medicine services.

Veterinarians from Tryon Equine Hospital provide official show services at TIEC 8 months of the year for hunter/ jumper, dressage, and eventing.

Our 17,000 square foot facility is equipped with full medical and surgical capabilities, standing MRI, and in-house laboratory services. We currently employ 8 doctors, 14 technicians, interns, and support staff. The hospital is located adjacent to an equine rehabilitation facility with Aquatred and a saltwater spa.

Our caseload consists of English and Western performance, Racehorses in training, and pleasure horses covering a wide range of discipline, with a referral caseload from the local region and surrounding states. We are a fast-paced practice with a strong emphasis on client communication and service and have a strong team-building approach within out daily workflow.

Our Interns are responsible for hospitalized patients, intensive care cases, treatments, health records and daily examinations. Interns will also be responsible for anesthesia duties and working with our veterinarians on imaging, surgery, lameness, medicine, and reproductive examinations. Each day, interns will evaluate each case with one of our senior clinicians to make a daily plan for treatment. During ambulatory rotations, interns will work with senior clinicians assessing and treating patients on farms. As the internship and intern’s skill set progress, there will be opportunity for seeing cases autonomously with senior clinician support.
