The Mid-Atlantic Equine Medical Center has opportunities for 7 veterinarian interns at our state-of-the-art facility in central New Jersey.
Mid-Atlantic Equine is an exclusively equine practice that offers rotations in services that cover elective and emergency surgery, sports medicine, internal medicine, neonatology, ophthalmology, reproduction, diagnostic imaging, anesthesia, and ambulatory medicine. Our goal is to provide new graduates with mentorship and experience in all facets of equine medicine, as a springboard to residencies or jobs in private practice.
Our compensation package includes: salary ($35,000), 60% coverage of health insurance premium, AVMA liability insurance, CE stipend, licensing fees in NJ and PA, and AVMA membership. Housing is included for up to 6 interns, with a housing stipend provided for those that choose not to live in the designated house . Emergency bonuses are provided when intern sees emergencies after hours in the field and hospital as primary veterinarian.

There are 7 different rotations that each last two weeks. There are 3 surgery rotations where the intern works 1-on-1 with each of our three surgeons, 1 internal medicine rotation working 1-on-1 with our internist, 1 anesthesia rotation, 1 ambulatory rotation working with our 4 ambulatory doctors, and 1 overnight emergency hospital rotation.

Our practice is busiest during the spring and summer months due to a large breeding stock population in the area. We stay busy through the fall and have a slight decrease December-January when a lot of horses are in Florida for the winter.

We have yearly training with a board certified anesthesiologist who also consults throughout the year. Our technicians who are trained in anesthesia have a combined experience of close to 100 years of running anesthesia at this hospital. We have specialized farriers who come into the clinic for specific cases.

Each intern receives portion of the emergency fee for ambulatory and hospital cases seen on their own. They also receive a bonus for any cases that they anesthetize on weekends they are on call for anesthesia.
