Any additional information the practice would like to share on their internship program:
Woodside typically hosts two VETPD (Veterinary Professional Development) events annually, along with organizing its own RACE-approved Continuing Education (CE) event for the referring veterinarian community. These events cover a range of advanced veterinary topics, providing a unique platform for professional growth and knowledge exchange. Interns are encouraged to attend and actively participate in these events, especially when the subjects align with their areas of interest. Engaging in these opportunities allows interns to deepen their understanding of current veterinary practices, network with experts in the field, and apply new insights to their daily work, further enhancing their internship experience.
In addition, resident horses and those owned by our veterinarians serve as invaluable resources for creating hands-on learning opportunities for our interns. These horses provide a controlled environment without the presence of a client where interns can practice essential veterinary skills, from routine examinations to more complex procedures, under the guidance of experienced veterinarians. This practical experience is crucial in bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application, and allows the interns to gain confidence and competence all while receiving immediate feedback and mentorship.
Once weekly, the veterinarians and interns participate in topic rounds. This includes journal club, radiology rounds, veterinarian presentations, hands on laboratories, once quarterly intern presentations, and morbidity and mortality rounds. These topics rotate each week.

Seasonality description
The ambulatory service at Woodside experiences a distinct seasonality, with the caseload peaking during the spring and fall. This surge is driven by wellness appointments and the demands of the show seasons, making these the busiest times of the year. In contrast, the hospital’s caseload does not follow a seasonal pattern; instead, it ebbs and flows throughout the year, with no consistent periods of heightened activity. This variation between the ambulatory and hospital services provides interns with diverse learning experiences across different times of the year.

Our hospital is staffed 24/7 by experienced veterinary assistants, ensuring continuous patient care.
