This LA rotating internship provides advanced clinical training primarily in LA medicine, LA surgery, and emergency service, but ambulatory, theriogenology, and elective rotations are included. On-call emergency duties are NOT expected when on LA medicine or LA surgery rotations. When on the emergency service, only overnight duties are expected. The program is designed to qualify the intern for entry into an approved residency program. Resident and faculty support are available. An average of 2,500 in-hospital cases are seen per year, including 65% equine cases and 35% food animal cases. Participation in research is optional.

22 days of vacation available, not including weekends, and 3 professional leave days per year. Vacation can be taken for CE but funds beyond $200 per intern is not provided by university.

Additional information about the internship program
Brand new equine and farm animal hospitals! High caseload, and we follow AAVMC guidelines of capping intern duty hours at 80 h/week (although very uncommon to reach 80 h/week). After-hours emergency rotation is separate from daytime rotations. Residents come in with intern for every emergency for at least 6 months. Low cost of living (avg rent: $1200-1400/mo for 2 bedroom apt).
