The goal of the Rotating Equine Medicine and Surgery Internship position at Mississippi State University is to provide motivated individuals broad exposure to the field of clinical equine veterinary medicine, research, and teaching. The internship is a one-year position within the Department of Pathobiology and Population Medicine. The MSU-CVM faculty includes board-certified clinicians in surgery, internal medicine, large animal ambulatory, neurology, anesthesiology, radiology, dermatology, ophthalmology, theriogenology, gross pathology, and clinical pathology. Opportunities for research and scholarly activity are supported. Interns participate with residents in weekly journal club, seminar, and ACVS resident board preparatory activities.
Interns are provided with $2,500 in professional development funds to pay for travel and registration fees for conferences/workshops, specialty board examination fees, publication costs, or books for their service.
MSU CVM provides supplemental compensation, in addition to regular pay, to house officers when they provide emergency after-hours care to patients beyond the duties expected of their positions.
This position is eligible for Public Service Loan Forgiveness.

Service rotation description
Interns rotate primary and back-up call equally with residents. The primary on call house officer receives emergency calls and calls regarding in-house patients and receives emergency cases. The back-up on call house officer is called in when a case goes to surgery or if multiple emergencies present at the same time. Primary emergency duty not more than 25%.
