Internship Type
Combined
This is a “Junior Associate” position designed for new graduates who desire guidance during their first year of practice. As a junior associate all cases are seen with a senior clinician until the junior associate is confident in their ability to examine and treat the many different types of cases that we see. We prefer to work as a “group practice” where the clinicians support each other on a daily basis.
Junior associates rotate emergency call duty with a senior clinician until they are competent to take emergency duty alone. Emergency duty is shared equally with 2 other veterinarians.
Central Georgia Equine Services works a 5 day work week and offers limited emergency coverage from 8am to 10 pm daily. A veterinary assistant is assigned to each clinician and no doctor treats any case without an assistant at any time day or night.
We see a very large variety of cases from preventative health care and dentistry to reproduction including semen freezing and embryo transfers. Our sports medicine tools include IRAP, ProStride, and shockwave therapy. We offer Gastroscopy, upper airway endoscopy and hysteroscopy. Our imaging services include ultrasound, digital radiography and oral endoscopy.
The central Georgia area offers a moderate climate for year round sports and a variety of lakes, restaurants, theaters and parks.
Our goal is to prepare the “Junior Associate” to become a confident and competent equine practitioner who is ready for a full-fledged associate position.

We are located in a rural setting that offers advanced medical care to our patients. The closest equine practice to us is 100 miles away. We do amazing things in our rural setting using advanced technology, ingenuity and creativity. We practice as a group, our clinicians regularly work together on cases for the benefit of the patient and our staff. Everyday is a little different and having the flexibility to redirect and respond to the challenge is part of our practice. Students who work with us will develop a vast skill set in preventative care, dentistry, field surgery, internal medicine, lameness, ophthalmology, lameness and reproduction. Our internship is designed to prepare the student to be competent in all entry levels of equine practice and ready to proceed into a residency or begin specialized training in the discipline of their choice.
