Located in Weatherford, Texas, commonly known as the “Quarter Horse Capital of the World”, Equine Sports Medicine & Surgery (“ESMS”) is currently seeking to fill 4 intern positions with a 12-month term from June 1, 2025 through May 31, 2026.

Our internship program is for veterinarians who have recently graduated from veterinary school.  Interns participate in and practice new skills in anesthesia, lameness, surgery, radiology, ultrasound, emergency, critical care, and much more.

ESMS Internship Philosophy:
At ESMS, our goal is to expose new graduates to as many facets of equine practice as possible. Close mentorship is available throughout the entire internship. Interns will gain a vast amount of exposure to lameness and advanced diagnostics, high volumes of orthopedic and soft tissue surgery cases, large numbers of both routine and complex internal medicine cases, neonate medicine, and routine mare and foal care. We rely heavily on our intern veterinarians to help facilitate case management. Our interns will gain a great deal of experience throughout the internship and at the end of the year, be well equipped with confidence, knowledge, and skills to enter either private practice or a residency program.

What our Interns Do:
Our interns rotate through each of our five rotations on a two week basis. The five rotations are made up of three different surgery rotations, one internal medicine rotation and one emergency/critical care rotation. Intern responsibilities include daily monitoring and evaluation of hospitalized patients, performing diagnostics and treatments, assisting in surgery, assisting with anesthesia and emergency duties. Opportunities are available for exposure to race track medicine. The ESMS interns are a very important and valued part of our team and are essential to the high standard of care and treatment we provide for our patients.
