Ambulatory
A unique opportunity to experience two different ambulatory equine practices practicing high level equine medicine. Weitz Equine is located in Northfield, Minnesota, a beautiful college town just south of the twin cities. Thompson & Associates is located in Canton , Georgia near Atlanta.
Both Weitz Equine and Thompson & Associates practice in high density equine communities, serving a a variety and pleasure and performance horse populations. Our practices equally value high level compassionate equine care while emphasizing work/life balance for all of our employees and even our interns! Our goal is to help our intern gain confidence and skill in equine ambulatory practice without the burn out. Throughout the 12 months, the intern will receive training and mentorship in performance medicine, preventative medicine, reproductive care, and emergency equine care. Beyond the clinical medicine, we will guide the intern in client communication skills and general business skills. Both practices offer many diagnostic capabilities and tools including digital radiography and ultrasound, endoscopy, in house labs including PCR, shockwave, chiropractic/manipulative care, and acupuncture. Weitz Equine is currently building a haul in facility to enable offering more services year round to our clients.
The intern’s schedule will consist of riding along with clinicians during the week to assist and perform examinations, diagnostics procedures, and treatments. The intern will be on call most weekends with a clinician always available as back-up. Our intern ALWAYS has two guaranteed days off per week as our goal is to help the candidate love equine medicine , not work until they drop. Half the intern year is spent in Minnesota and half in Georgia. Travel time and a travel stipend are worked into the program to facilitate the transition.
