Myra Barrett

Dr. Myra Barrett

Dr. Barrett is a professor of equine diagnostic imaging at Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences. Her primary research and clinical interests are equine musculoskeletal imaging and comparative imaging, and she works closely with the equine surgery and sports medicine services. Dr. Barrett is also a founding partner of Inside Information Radiology, a dedicated equine teleradiology company; and she is a founding member, diplomate and first president of the American College of Veterinary Radiology – Equine Diagnostic Imaging.

After earning her veterinary degree from Colorado State University (CSU), Dr. Barrett completed a year-long internship at Oakridge Equine Hospital. She subsequently underwent a non-conforming radiology residency to particularly focus on equine diagnostic imaging. The residency was based at CSU but included training with multiple equine imaging experts in the US and internationally. At the same time, Dr. Barrett obtained a master's degree through the Orthopaedic Research Center at CSU. Dr. Barrett developed the equine imaging service at CSU.

Dr. Sarah Colmer

Dr. Sarah Colmer

Dr. Colmer is a large animal internist and neurology fellow at the University of Pennsylvania’s New Bolton Center. She has research interests in neurologic conditions of the horse, particularly degenerative diseases, as well as endocrinology.

After receiving her veterinary degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 2017, Dr. Colmer completed a rotating internship at Mid-Atlantic Equine Medical Center in Ringoes, N.J., followed by a rotating internship and large animal internal medicine residency at New Bolton Center, achieving board certification in 2022. She received the 2024 William B. Boucher Award for Outstanding Teaching as voted on by the graduating class. Dr. Colmer is currently in the final year of a neurology residency program, aiming for her second ACVIM board certification in 2026.

Dr. Melissa King

Dr. King is an associate professor in equine sports medicine and rehabilitation at Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences. Her current research interests involve the objective assessment of underwater treadmill exercise for the management of equine musculoskeletal injuries, validation of rehabilitation modalites, as well as the biomechanical assessment of compensatory gait adaptations.

After receiving her veterinary degree from Colorado State University (CSU) in 1997, Dr. King completed a one-year internship at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, Ky., before returning to Colorado as an equine private practitioner focused on orthopedics and sports medicine. After practicing for 10 years, Dr. King returned to CSU to pursue a PhD in equine orthopedics and rehabilitation at the Equine Orthopaedic Research Center. The focus of her research was to investigate the physiologic, biomechanical and histologic effects of aquatic therapy on diminishing the progression of osteoarthritis within the equine middle carpal joint. She became board certified in veterinary sports medicine and rehabilitation in 2012.

Dr. Yvette Nout-Lomas

Dr. Yvette Nout-Lomas

Dr. Nout-Lomas is an associate professor of equine internal medicine at Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences. Her clinical interests include evaluation and treatment of horses with neurologic and behavior disorders and critically ill foals and adult horses. Her research goal is to improve diagnostic capabilities and treatment options for horses with neurologic disease. In particular, her research focuses on gait assessment in horses, spinal cord injury, and comparative neuroscience.

Dr. Nout-Lomas received her veterinary degree in 1999 from Utrecht University in The Netherlands. After completing a rotating internship at the Marion duPont Scott Equine Medical Center in Leesburg, Va., she completed residencies in Equine Internal Medicine and Equine Emergency and Critical Care at The Ohio State University, becoming boarded in both specialties. She earned a PhD in Neuroscience in the College of Medicine of The Ohio State University and then completed postdoctoral work in comparative neuroscience at the University of California in San Francisco. She joined the CSU faculty in 2014.

Dr. Andrea Oliver
