Meet Our Instructors

Dr. Kate Bills
Dr. Bills is an Associate Professor of Clinical Large Animal Diagnostic Imaging at New Bolton Center, University of Pennsylvania, having joined the faculty in 2016. Her work focuses on the clinical applications of advanced imaging systems, including CT, MRI, and novel standing imaging systems, including PET and a robotics-controlled cone beam CT.
Dr. Bills obtained her VMD from the University of Pennsylvania in 2012 after graduating from Tufts University with a degree in biochemistry. Following a rotating internship in equine medicine, surgery, and critical care at the New Bolton Center, Dr. Bills completed a diagnostic imaging residency at Tufts University’s Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine. She became board-certified in diagnostic imaging by the American College of Veterinary Radiology in 2016 and received additional board certification in equine diagnostic imaging (DACVR-EDI) in 2022.

Dr. Lindsay Deacon
Dr. Deacon is an associate veterinarian at Littleton Equine Medical Center, where her primary practice interests are imaging, lameness, rehabilitation and cardiology.
Dr. Deacon earned her veterinary degree from Texas A&M University in 2018. Following an internship at Littleton Equine Medical Center, Dr. Deacon completed a fellowship in cardiology and ultrasound fellowship at New Bolton Center, University of Pennsylvania, before returning to Littleton Equine in 2020.

Dr. Natasha Werpy
Dr. Werpy is a board-certified veterinary radiologist and owner of Equine Diagnostic Imaging, Inc. in Archer, Fla. She consults for top practices and universities worldwide and has a strong focus on musculoskeletal imaging of the equine athlete.
Dr. Werpy received her veterinary degree from Colorado State University in 1999. Following an equine internship, she completed an imaging internship with Dr. Norman Rantanen followed by a diagnostic imaging residency with Dr. Rantanen and Colorado State University. Dr. Werpy served as the medical imaging director at the Gail Holmes Equine Orthopaedic Research Center at Colorado State University from 2004–2011. She worked part time as an associate professor of diagnostic imaging at the University of Florida from 2011–2016 before entering private practice.

Dr. Kara Brown
Dr. Brown is an assistant professor of Equine Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation at New Bolton Center at the University of Pennsylvania, from which she received her veterinary degree in 2014. After graduation, she completed an equine internship at Woodside Equine Clinic, followed by a large animal internship, a clinical fellowship in large animal cardiology and ultrasound, and a residency training program in equine sports medicine and rehabilitation at New Bolton Center.
Dr. Brown is a boarded diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation and has a strong clinical and research interest in poor performance in the equine athlete, axial skeletal pain and regenerative medicine.

Dr. Holly Stewart
Dr. Stewart is the Charles W. Raker Assistant Professor of Equine Orthopedic Surgery at New Bolton Center at the University of Pennsylvania, from which she received her veterinary degree in 2012. She joined the faculty at Penn Vet in 2023 as an assistant professor of large animal surgery in the clinician-educator track.
Dr. Stewart was a post-doctoral fellow in the Preclinical Surgical Research Laboratory at Colorado State University, where she also received her PhD in orthopedics in 2021. Before this, Dr. Stewart completed an internship at Pioneer Equine Hospital in California, followed by a residency in large animal surgery at New Bolton Center, achieving board certification in 2019.
