Stuart Brown II, DVM, a partner in Hagyard Equine Medical Institute in Lexington, Ky., has joined the board of directors of the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP).

Dr. Brown was installed during the Dec. 10 President’s Luncheon at the AAEP’s 59th Annual Convention in Nashville, Tenn. His three-year term will expire in 2016.

After receiving his veterinary degree from Tuskegee University in 1991, Dr. Brown joined Hagyard where his practice specializes in reproduction, public auction sales evaluations and general practice within the Thoroughbred industry. An active advocate on behalf of equines and equine practice, Dr. Brown is a past president of the Kentucky Veterinary Medical Association and currently serves on the boards of the Gluck Equine Research Foundation and the Kentucky Thoroughbred Association/Kentucky Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders. He is also a member of the Equine Advisory Board to the University of Kentucky Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory.

An AAEP member since 1991, Dr. Brown serves as chair of the Executive Director Review Committee, alternate delegate-elect to the AVMA House of Delegates and on the Welfare and Public Policy Advisory Council. He previously chaired the Public Sales Auction Issues Task Force and Reproductive Evaluation of the Mare Task Force.

The American Association of Equine Practitioners, headquartered in Lexington, Ky., was founded in 1954 as a non-profit organization dedicated to the health and welfare of the horse. The AAEP reaches more than 5 million horse owners through its nearly 10,000 members worldwide and is actively involved in ethics issues, practice management, research and continuing education in the equine veterinary profession and horse industry.
