Mark Baus, DVM, owner of Grand Prix Equine in Bridgewater, Conn., has joined the board of directors of the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP).

Dr. Baus was installed during the Dec. 10 President’s Luncheon at the AAEP’s 59th Annual Convention in Nashville, Tenn. His three-year term will expire in 2016.

Dr. Baus has worked in private practice with a focus on the care and treatment of performance horses for more than 30 years. After receiving his veterinary degree from Kansas State University in 1981, Dr. Baus entered practice in Fairfield, Conn. He co-founded Fairfield Equine Associates in Newtown, Conn., in 1989 and served as president and managing partner of the practice from 1996 until starting Grand Prix Equine in 2009.

An AAEP member since 1982 and current moderator of the English Sport Horse Rounds, Dr. Baus has served on the Ethics and Professional Conduct Committee, the Affiliates and Drug Compounding task forces, and facilitated the Performance Horse Forum. In addition, he is founding director and incoming president of the Northeast Association of Equine Practitioners and serves on the United States Equestrian Federation’s Veterinary Committee and on the United States Hunter Jumper Association’s Horse and Rider Advocates Committee.

The American Association of Equine Practitioners, headquartered in Lexington, Ky., was founded in 1954 as a non-profit organization dedicated to the health and welfare of the horse. The AAEP reaches more than 5 million horse owners through its nearly 10,000 members worldwide and is actively involved in ethics issues, practice management, research and continuing education in the equine veterinary profession and horse industry.
