The University of Florida Veterinary Hospital at the World Equestrian Center (UFVH-WEC) is pleased to offer a Seasonal Internship in Equine Sports Medicine, Rehabilitation, and Diagnostic Imaging. This internship is designed to provide intensive, focused clinical training during the peak competition season at the WEC, when caseloads are at their highest. The program is ideal for motivated veterinarians seeking advanced experience in performance horse medicine and who may be considering future residency training or equine specialty practice.
The seasonal internship provides extensive clinical exposure to equine sports medicine, rehabilitation, and diagnostic imaging. Clinical duties include participation in lameness evaluations, advanced imaging (MRI, CT, PET), rehabilitation protocols, biologic therapies, and case management under direct supervision of board-certified faculty (ACVSMR, ACVS, ACVIM, ACVR). The intern will also engage in standing sedated and general anesthesia procedures, as well as modest, supervised after-hours emergency duty. Opportunities exist for elective rotations, research involvement, and participation in clinical teaching of veterinary students.
Duties will consist of clinical assignments including clinical case responsibility, participation in the teaching of clinics to 4th year veterinary students, a limited number of didactic lectures and participation in laboratory and continuing education courses. Responsibilities will include night and weekend duty in the hospital. Salary for this position is $47,000 annually.
An elaborate benefit package is provided to each intern. This employer-paid package includes a multitude of coverage’s including: medical, dental, vision, life, accidental death & dismemberment, disability, cancer, long term disability, and accident (out of pocket) insurance. With most of the plans, there is also the option to include family members on the coverage at no extra cost to the intern. If an intern suffers a work-related injury, the intern is generally covered under the workers’ compensation program of the University provided the intern complies with the requirements of the worker’s compensation program. The intern will receive 5 days of paid time off.
Qualifying applicants must have a DVM or equivalent degree, and a demonstrated interest in equine sports medicine. A one-year internship or at least one year of general practice or equivalent experience with equine focus is preferred.

The hospital is a satellite hospital of the main hospital in Gainesville 30 miles north. In Gainesville, a full compliment of experts from all of the available specialties are available for consultation remotely or in person.
