Grand Prix Equine is pleased to offer a unique Sport Horse Medicine internship (2025/2026) and multiple opportunities for externships in the upcoming year. Candidates should demonstrate strong people skills and meet a high ethical standard. Our ambulatory practice is based in western Connecticut and Westchester County, New York but serves the needs of sport horses in the surrounding region, Long Island and seasonally in Wellington, Florida. Grand Prix Equine is in its 15th year and is an ambulatory-only practice. It is our goal to provide the best care possible to the equine athlete while maintaining a high level of client service. Horses under our care include hunters and jumpers, combined-training athletes, western performance horses and dressage horses.
The great majority of our patients are actively showing year-round. You will work side-by-side with either Dr. Mark Baus, Dr. Johanna Kremberg, Dr. Luvie Abell, Dr. Caitlin Rothacker, Dr. Cleo Bubulka, Dr. Mel Batterton and Dr. Nicole Zitzmann for most of the internship. At the conclusion of the internship, our candidate will be proficient at purchase exams and lameness exams including nerve blocks, radiograph & ultrasound acquisition and interpretation, intra-articular injections, ultrasound guided injections and various regenerative medicine techniques. You will also be proficient at managing emergency and dental cases. Practice management skills will be a fundamental part of our program. We utilize the Equinosis (Lameness Locator) inertial sensors for all complicated lameness work-ups, and you will be proficient in the technology by the end of your internship.
Housing is available for both the intern and externs. An outfitted intern vehicle will be provided along with a laptop and smartphone. Benefits include medical and liability insurance, dues for AVMA and AAEP, continuing education and 8 paid days off per year.
