Meet Our Instructors
Dr. Travis Henry
Dr. Henry is a Board Certified Equine Veterinary Dentist™ and the founder and patriarch of Midwest Veterinary Dental Services in Elkhorn, Wisc. He has transitioned to the position National Specialty Director of Dentistry within the Thrive Community, a role that allows him to shape the strategic direction of Veterinarian dentistry through consulting, training and enhancing the standards of dental care across the country!
Dr. Henry graduated from Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1993. In 1996, he started his own practice in Neenah, Wisc., which included all aspects of equine and small animal medicine. Dr. Henry’s interests were dentistry, lameness and reproduction.
After selling the practice in 2003, Dr. Henry established Midwest Veterinary Dental Services and began to focus solely on veterinary dentistry. During this time, he traveled extensively in the U.S., Europe and Australia teaching basic and advanced dentistry to veterinarians and consulting for Veterinary Dental Products.
In 2011, Dr. Henry began a dentistry residency at University of California, Davis, which he completed in 2014. In 2015 he passed the dentistry boards, achieving diplomate status with the American Veterinary Dental College. In 2016, he passed his second dentistry board exam with the American Veterinary College, Equine Specialty.
Dr. Nick Moore
Dr. Moore is owner of Moore Equine Dental Services and Moore Equine Education in Bertram, Texas. He began his formal training at the Academy of Equine Dentistry prior to attending veterinary school at Colorado State University, from which he graduated in 2010. An internship at the Arizona Equine Medical and Surgical Centre solidified his commitment to equine dentistry and surgery, enabling him to provide exceptional care to horses.
Today, Dr. Moore travels the U.S. to perform standing oral extractions and minimally invasive oral surgeries for veterinary practices. His teaching experience spans the globe—he has conducted lectures and wet labs on equine dentistry in South America, Australia, Europe and throughout the U.S., in addition to presenting at prestigious international conferences.
A member of the AAEP’s Scientific Review & Editorial Committee, Dr. Moore has also contributed to the field of equine dentistry through peer-reviewed publications. His commitment to education and innovation continues to enhance the understanding and practice of equine dental care worldwide.
Dr. Molly Rice
Dr. Rice is a Board Certified Equine Veterinary Dentist™ and medical director of Midwest Veterinary Dental Services in Elkhorn, Wisc.
After receiving her veterinary degree from the University of Wisconsin in 2003, Dr. Rice completed an internship with Wisconsin Equine Clinic in Oconomowoc, where she developed a strong interest in dentistry and reproduction. Afterward, she joined a private practice in the Madison area where she practiced general equine medicine for six years and worked toward advancing her skills in dentistry.
After spending time training with Dr. Travis Henry, Dr. Rice joined his dental team in 2009. In addition to her clinical work, she enjoys educating other veterinarians, veterinary students and clients at continuing education events and meetings.
In 2015, Dr. Rice became an Advanced Standing candidate for the American Veterinary Dental College and started her training for board certification in equine dentistry. She passed her board exam and officially became a diplomate of the Equine American Veterinary Dental College in June 2018. Dr. Rice was promoted to Medical Director of Midwest Veterinary Dental Services in February 2025.
Dr. Lindsay Helvey
Dr. Helvey owns Northwest Equine Dentistry, an ambulatory practice that provides routine and advanced equine dental care in Washington.
After receiving her veterinary degree from Colorado State University in 2010, Dr. Helvey completed an internship at Glenwood Veterinary Clinic in Colorado before moving to the Pacific Northwest in 2011. During her career as an associate with two equine veterinary clinics in the Northwest, her focus gradually shifted to equine dentistry. She has nurtured that passion with continuing education courses, self-study and mentoring from talented veterinarians who specialize in dentistry.
Dr. Helvey completed an equine dentistry internship through VDC in 2024 and passed examination to become a member of the ANZCVS (Eq Dentistry).
Dr. Carsten Staszyk
Dr. Staszyk is a university professor at Justus Liebig University Giessen in Germany, where his teaching activities comprise lectures and seminars in gross veterinary anatomy, histology and embryology as well as surgically applied gross veterinary anatomy.
A graduate of the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover, Dr. Staszyk focuses his research on equine periodontal and pulpal stem cells, odontology, equine paranasal sinuses, and temporomandibular joint/biomechanics of mastication.
