Recent research developments provide insight into the effect of pregnancy on equine metabolism and conversely raise questions about the potential for pregnancy effects from equine metabolic disease. Although limited scientific data exist, clinical considerations for potential nutritional and therapeutic interventions to promote pregnancy maintenance will be discussed.
