Position Full Description

Internship Philosophy: To provide mentorship balanced with responsibility, and offer opportunities for special focus. By the end of the internship year, doctors will have deepened their diagnostic, surgical, and technical skills, as well as their understanding of equine medicine. Our interns will leave having experience in a busy general practice as well as specialty training by our board-certified specialists – DACVS, DACVIM, DABVP ( Equine)

Internship Duties: Assist with in-house and ambulatory cases; surgery; evening and weekend treatments and on call emergency duties; on call anesthesia duties. Help manage the medical care of critical patients, facilitate day-to-day operations of the clinic, and help our staff with daily appointments

Additional Information: Interns rotate weekly as follows: 1) In-House/Primary Intern 2) Over Night Intern 3) Field Intern.  The primary intern is responsible for day time in house case management, daytime emergencies, daytime surgeries, in house appointments, and is on call for emergency anesthesia. The overnight intern is responsible for helping the night technician with in house case management, as well as taking in after hours emergencies and scrubbing into emergency surgeries.  Has the Monday following their overnight week OFF. The field intern accompanies associates on daytime ambulatory calls and week night emergency calls ( to begin taking their own week night emergencies by the second half of the internship) and has their ambulatory weekend OFF duty.
