Purpose
NEW! To be awarded to an AAEP member within the first decade of their career for leadership or engagement within the association and/or profession or for design and delivery of research that advances horse health or veterinarian wellbeing. This award was established in 2025.
As a graduate of the University of Georgia veterinary school in 1959, Dr. Olive Kendrick Britt was the first female large animal intern/resident at University of Pennsylvania and practiced as the first woman equine veterinarian in Virginia for 32 years. Featured in the book “Embracing the Equine Profession: The Story of Olive Kendrick Britt, DVM” (Gentry, 2012), Dr. Britt served as the veterinarian for the Meadow Farm in Doswell, Va., at the time of the birth of the legendary racehorse, Secretariat. Additionally, Dr. Britt was an AAEP member from 1963 until her death in 2006.
