Monty McInturff, DVM, co-owner of Tennessee Equine Hospital in Thompson’s Station, Tenn., has joined the American Association of Equine Practitioners’ (AAEP) board of directors as the representative of District IV.

Dr. McInturff was inducted to the board during the Dec. 4 President’s Luncheon at the 58th Annual Convention in Anaheim, Calif. His term will expire in 2015.

Dr. McInturff has worked in private practice for more than 20 years, with a focus on the sport horse as well as the management of a nine-veterinarian, full-service equine hospital. He is also co-founder of the Middle Tennessee Academy of Equine Practitioners where he served as president from 1996-2000.

After receiving his veterinary degree from Auburn University in 1989, Dr. McInturff worked as an associate veterinarian in Alabama for two years before returning to his native Tennessee to start his own practice.

An AAEP member since 1987, Dr. McInturff served on the association’s Equine Welfare Committee and Tennessee Walking Horse Task Force, participated in the AAEP Leadership Development Workshop in 2006 and is currently working to strengthen the Ambassador program as a member of the AAEP Foundation Committee. In addition, he has served as presenter, moderator, and facilitator of multiple round table and panel discussions on both lameness and equine business during AAEP Annual Conventions.

The American Association of Equine Practitioners, headquartered in Lexington, Ky., was founded in 1954 as a non-profit organization dedicated to the health and welfare of the horse. Currently, the AAEP reaches more than 5 million horse owners through its nearly 10,000 members worldwide and is actively involved in ethics issues, practice management, research and continuing education in the equine veterinary profession and horse industry.
