New Veterinary Spokespersons Join AAEP On Call Team

Six veterinarians with specific interests in the Thoroughbred racehorse are the newest spokespersons for the American Association of Equine Practitioners’ On Call program.  On Call is an innovative media-assistance program that provides timely health-care information about equine athletes during nationally televised events.

Joining the program in 2014 are:

• Luis Castro, DVM, of Wellington, Fla. A partner in Teigland, Franklin and Brokken, Dr. Castro divides his practice between Palm Meadows Training Center in Boynton Beach, Fla., and Saratoga Racecourse in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
• Kevin Dunlavy, DVM, of Louisville, Ky.  Dr. Dunlavy is the managing partner and co-owner of Kentucky Equine Medical Associates, a five-veterinarian practice providing care for racehorses in Kentucky, Louisiana, Arkansas and Indiana.
• Lisa Fortier, DVM, Ph.D., Diplomate ACVS, of Ithaca, N.Y.  Dr. Fortier is a professor of surgery and an equine surgeon at Cornell University, where her research program investigates the clinical application of stem cells and biologics for cartilage repair and tendonitis.
• Keith Latson, DVM, Diplomate ACVS, of Pasadena, Calif.  Dr. Latson is in private surgical and performance equine practice, focusing on racehorses at Southern California racetracks.
• Michael Major, DVM, Diplomate ACVS, of Edmond, Okla.  A partner at Oakridge Equine Hospital – a referral facility – Dr. Major predominately treats racehorses. He has special interests in lameness, sports medicine and orthopedics.
• John Peloso, DVM, MS, Diplomate ACVS, of Ocala, Fla. Dr. Peloso is a founding partner at the Equine Medical Center of Ocala and began his career at a Standbardbred racetrack practice in Ontario, Canada.
