Four recent veterinary graduates who have embarked on careers in equine medicine have received $4,000 scholarships from Zoetis and the AAEP Foundation. The awards were presented Dec. 3 at the AAEP’s 64th Annual Convention in San Francisco, Calif.

Now in its sixth year, the Zoetis/AAEP Foundation scholarship program rewards graduating veterinary students for their academic excellence, leadership in their school and AAEP student chapter, and their long-term goals in equine practice. Since 2013, Zoetis has provided more than $135,000 in scholarships and other support to 30 graduates.

Congratulations to the following 2018 recipients:

  • Amanda Craven, DVM, University of Wisconsin
  • Elisabeth Leahy, DVM, Michigan State University
  • Heather Morrissey, DVM, University of Florida
  • Taylor Powell, DVM, Texas A&M University

In addition to the financial award, each recipient received a travel stipend to attend the annual convention and complimentary convention registration.

Veterinary student applicants are nominated for the scholarships by representatives from their colleges. Each accredited college or school of veterinary medicine with an AAEP student chapter may use its own criteria to nominate a fourth-year veterinary student who plans to enter equine practice.

“We are proud to honor these future equine veterinarians as part of the ongoing commitment from Zoetis to help ensure every horse receives the health and wellness care they deserve,” said Jeannie Jeffery, Zoetis equine business unit head. “We also recognize current veterinarians for their vital role in support of AAEP Foundation scholarships and their continued dedication to improving horse health.”
