The Foundation for the Horse is pleased to announce the 2020 recipients of $4,000 Zoetis/The Foundation for the Horse Scholarships:

  • Sarah Freeman, DVM, University of California, Davis Class of 2020 (intern at Tryon Equine Hospital, Columbus, N.C.)
  • Meredith Frey, DVM, Colorado State University Class of 2020 (intern at The Piedmont Equine Practice, The Plains, Va.)
  • Gabriella Kawahisa Piquini, Colorado State University Class of 2021
  • Adria Schlesman, University of Pennsylvania Class of 2021
  • Sara Tufts, North Carolina State University Class of 2021

Now in its eighth year, the Zoetis/The Foundation for the Horse scholarship program, managed through The Foundation for the Horse, rewards graduating veterinary students for their academic excellence, leadership in their school and American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) student chapter, and their long-term goals in equine practice. Applicants must also have the support of AAEP members and their clinical instructors. This year, the program was open to both fourth-year veterinary students and recent graduates from the spring of 2020.

“We are proud to partner again with The Foundation to offer this opportunity benefiting new equine veterinarians,” said Jeannie Jeffery, Zoetis equine business unit head. “We are thankful for yet another chance to showcase Zoetis’ ongoing commitment to horse health and to the veterinary profession, especially during these challenging times.”

The awards will be presented Dec. 9 following part one of the Frank J. Milne State-of-the-Art Lecture during the 2020 AAEP Virtual Convention.

The AAEP Foundation, the forerunner of The Foundation for the Horse, established the Zoetis Scholarship in 2013. The award is made possible through gifts made by AAEP Educational Partner Zoetis.
