Reata Equine Hospital is a 4-doctor, 2-intern referral practice located 20 minutes west of Fort Worth in Weatherford, Texas. Our area has a high concentration of horse population of a wide variety of disciplines in a semi-rural setting. We strive to provide excellence in equine veterinary care by educating and partnering with our clients in maintaining healthy horses while holding ourselves accountable to a Biblically based standard of ethics and integrity.
Our goal is to provide the experience and knowledge necessary for a new graduate to excel as a well-rounded equine veterinarian in private practice. This is accomplished through mentoring and providing ample opportunities to become confident and proficient in the skills and communication abilities needed for success. Our caseload consists of approximately 50% in hospital 50% ambulatory cases, of which the interns will play an integral part in the treatment plans and management for all patients. The interns will have exposure to all aspects of equine practice including a high volume of sports medicine/lameness, reproduction (including mare and stallion management), neonate care, internal medicine, surgery, chiropractic and wellness cases. The interns will gain proficiency with all manner of advanced diagnostics.
Early in the internship, the interns will initially be called to assist the primary clinician on call with emergencies. Once the interns exhibit proficiency to the intern supervisor, they will be placed into the on-call rotation and share emergency duties with a clinician available for consult and as backup. The interns will also assist with anesthesia or surgery during after hour emergency surgeries. During normal business hours the interns will be assigned to weekly blocks on a rotating basis with each of our individual clinicians to take advantage of our doctors’ strengths and special interests.
