Position Full Description

Allegheny Equine is pleased to provide an internship for a recent veterinary school graduates who are looking to advance their training and gain experience in equine veterinary medicine. With multiple doctors with different specialties and a diverse horse population, our goal is to expose the new graduate to a wide range of experiences that ultimately allows them to gain the skills they need to be an independent and competent equine practitioner.

Clinical Experience and Responsibilities

Intern rotates between services

Interns alternate weekly between hospital and ambulatory. While on ambulatory, intern goes on routine calls with a senior veterinarian during the week and takes primary call for the weekend once ready. While on hospital, intern helps manage in-clinic cases but will still go on ambulatory calls during the day if clinic is not too busy.

We host farrier meeting that interns can attend. Additionally, in busier months, our clinic has "preventative care days", which are days of exclusively wellness work in a focused geographical area.

We feel that we provide an excellent internship for those looking to go into general practice. Our program is structured well for a gradual transition to working independently, and we have a strong focus on work-life balance to prevent burnout.
