Internship Type
Ambulatory
This internship is directed toward an ambitious individual who seeks a gradual introduction to high quality equine practice. A diligent intern should expect to become proficient in all aspects of equine ambulatory practice by completion of term.
The internship will begin with maximal contact time with senior staff, providing complete ambulatory care to the sport horse, thoroughbred, and breeding farms of central Virginia. Direct supervision is for a period of 6-9 months. Independent casework will depend on individual background and aptitude.
We pride ourselves in our supportive group of veterinarians, where everyone is a team player, creating an ideal mentoring environment. Our goal is to integrate interns into the team of associate veterinarians as opposed exploiting them as technicians.
Appointments are scheduled Monday through Friday. Expect 8-12 hour work days depending on the season. Work on Saturdays and Sundays is generally limited to emergencies and continuing care of patients. Weekend hours are variable.
An externship is required, but can be scheduled before or after application.
Submit a CV, letter of intent, vet school transcripts, and 3 letters of recommendation. This can be emailed to Melissa Robertson, practice manager (staff.odea@gmail.com).
Applicants are expected to have passed the NAVLE and earned a DVM degree before start date.
