Purpose

NEW! To be awarded to an AAEP member in solo practice who demonstrates commitment to the advancement of the equine veterinary profession while striving for work-life harmony, thereby serving as an exemplary role model for others in the association, particularly those in private practice. This award was established in 2025.

As a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania veterinary school in 1957, Dr. Margaret Phyllis Lose started her career as a racetrack practitioner and established the first equine-only practice owned by a woman, outside the gates of Philadelphia Park. She remained a dedicated AAEP member from 1962 until her death in 2019, and as an equine practitioner blazed a trail for others (particularly women) in the organization, writing an autobiography called “No Job for a Lady.”
