Sessions include:
Weight Loss in Horses – Debra C. Sellon
This interactive session will be a three-hour case-based
lecture on wei\fht loss in horses with an emphasis on a
practical approach and efficient interpretation of clinical
patholo\fy. Dr. Sellon will cover the “bi\f three” (nutrition,
teeth and parasites), chronic infectious/inflamma\ltory dis-
eases, or\fan failure, \fastrointestinal disorders and muscle
wastin\f disorders.
Practical Ophthalmology for the Equine Road Warrior –
Ann E. Dwyer
Dr. Dwyer will provide tips for performin\f examinations and
doin\f dia\fnostics in an ambulatory situation, treatin\f oph-
thalmic cases, performin\f standin\f sur\fery, ima\fin\f ocular
lesions with photo\fraphy, and mana\fin\f blind horses.
Equine Piroplasmosis: An Update on the Epidemiology
of the Disease and Current Situation in the U.S. –
Josie L. Traub-Dargatz
Equine piroplasmosis has been considered a forei\fn ani-
mal disease in the United States for several decades. Now
that infected horses have been detected in the United
States, it is important for practitioners to have a workin\f
knowled\fe of the cau\lsative a\fents, the \lmeans of transmis-\l
sion and dia\fnosis, and the current situation related to
identified infections and control strate\fies for equine piro-
plasmosis in the United States. Imaging of the Upper Airway and Musculos\beletal System

Durin\f this session, attendees will focus on case examples
of common and not-so-common conditions where dia\fnos-
tic ima\fin\f was incorporated into the overall dia\fnostic
workup.

Interacti\fe Case Studies – Jeffrey T. Berk, Ann E. Dwyer,
John S. Mit\fhell, Nat A. White and S\fott A. Hay
Attendees will investi\fate cases of upper respiratory tract
disease, lameness, ima\fin\f and more. The cases will not
necessarily be unique or unusual, but will hi\fhli\fht a dis-
ease, treatment, dia\fnostic approach and ima\fin\f modality.
Stallion Reproduction (Ins and Outs of Sperm
Management) – Di\fkson D. Varner
Dr. Varner will lead the \froup in dialo\fue re\fardin\f the
unique features of a spermatozoon and the requirements
necessary for a spermatozoon to accomplish its mission.
Techniques for assessin\f semen quality and pro\fnosticatin\f
stallion fertility will be addressed, and attendees will discuss
methods of processin\f spermatozoa for cooled transport.
Stallion Reproduction: Interacti\fe Case Discussion –
Di\fkson D. Varner
Attendees will en\fa\fe in discussions of wide-ran\fin\f cases
of stallion subfertility. Dr. Varner will present scenarios
involvin\f both natural cover and artificial insemination
breedin\f pro\frams. Participants will be encoura\fed to
share their own interestin\f cases with the \froup.

The meetin\f will be held at the Hilton Barbados, a
five-star resort nestled between two white sand
beaches of historic Needhams’ Point. Attendees
will have the option to re\fister for a variety of
afternoon activities when they re\fister for the
