I completed my internship at SES from 2016-2017 and I can confidently say I received the best support, education, and mentorship I could have asked for my first year out of school. The variety of cases I was able to see between hospitalized patients, outpatient appointments, and ambulatory calls with the associates and practice owners gave me an extremely well rounded experience in equine practice. The second six months the interns take primary on-call shifts so I got first hand experience with emergency work, and the associates and practice owners were only a phone call away with help/advice. I had some doctors come in on their weekends off to help me with difficult hospitalized cases as well. Work weeks were busy, but I still had enough down time to have my horse in Aiken with me and go for a few rides every week. To this day I still have good relationships with the docs at Southern and contact them periodically to ask advice about specific cases. SES is a family, and even though I was only there for a year, I was an integral part of that family, and still feel welcome "home" anytime.
