Dec 9, 2020

Emma Adam, DVM, Ph.D., DACVIM, DACVS, an equine outreach veterinarian for the University of Kentucky Department of Veterinary Science in Lexington, Ky., has joined the board of directors of the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP). Dr. Adam was installed Dec. 9 during the AAEP’s 2020 Annual Convention & Trade Show. Her three-year term expires in 2023.

A second-generation equine veterinarian who grew up on a commercial breeding farm in Newmarket, England, Dr. Adam received her veterinary degree in 1993 from the Royal Veterinary College in London. Following a stint in private practice, she completed a residency in internal medicine at Texas A&M University and a surgical residency at the University of Pennsylvania. She earned her Ph.D. in 2016 at the University of Kentucky, where she conducts equine research and serves as an industry liaison to support the profession and equine industry.

Dr. Adam has served on the AAEP’s Racing Committee since 2019. She has presented at the AAEP Annual Convention multiple times and, in 2019, served as moderator of the Ethics session. In 2014, Dr. Adam received the AAEP Foundation Past Presidents’ Research Fellow for her research into articular cartilage repair of degenerative joint disease, the leading cause of lameness and retirement in all breeds and disciplines of equine athletes.
