Merck Animal Health Veterinarian Elected to AAEP Board of Directors

Duane Chappell, DVM, equine technical services veterinarian with Merck Animal Health, has joined the board of directors of the American Association of Equine Practitioners. Dr. Chappell was installed during the Nov. 20 President’s Luncheon at the AAEP’s 63rd Annual Convention in San Antonio, Texas. His three-year term expires in 2020.

After receiving his veterinary degree from Purdue University in 1984, Dr. Chappell managed solo and mixed group practices in the Midwest before serving as resident veterinarian at Richland Ranch Quarter Horse farm and senior clinician/practice manager at Auburn Veterinary Service, both in Auburn, Ill. He spent four years as an assistant professor at Morehead State University in Morehead, Ky., before joining Merck Animal Health in 2014.

An AAEP member since 1992, Dr. Chappell serves on the AAEP Foundation Advisory Council and chairs its student scholarship program. He previously volunteered his expertise as a member of the AAEP’s Dentistry and Infectious Disease committees.

The American Association of Equine Practitioners, headquartered in Lexington, Ky., was founded in 1954 as a non-profit organization dedicated to the health and welfare of the horse. Currently, AAEP reaches more than 5 million horse owners through its over 9,000 members worldwide and is actively involved in ethics issues, practice management, research and continuing education in the equine veterinary profession and horse industry.
