SUMMARY:Webinar: From 'Good Enough' to 'A Good Life': Social License in Equestrianism
DESCRIPTION:The AAEP Presents \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFrom ‘Good Enough’ to ‘A Good Life’: Social License in Equestrianism \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe evolving relationship between humans and horses is increasingly shaped by societal expectations and ethical scrutiny\, especially as equestrian sports come under the lens of public opinion. The concept of social license to operate (SLO) is no longer a peripheral concern—it is central to the future of equestrianism. \nSLO reflects the informal\, dynamic approval granted by society for certain practices to continue. In the equestrian context\, maintaining this license requires more than compliance with minimum welfare standards; it demands demonstrable commitment to horses’ quality of life—what some have called “a life worth living\,” or better yet\, “a good life.” Public trust hinges not just on visible welfare improvements but on transparent\, ethical decision-making that places equine interests at the heart of equestrian activity. \nJoin Camie Heleski\, PhD\, for an insightful discussion of the need for equine sports to proactively engage with welfare science and public values\, lest they face loss of legitimacy. Little by little\, we move toward providing positive opportunities for our horses\, rather than just avoiding negative affective states. \nThis webinar will be recorded. AAEP will send an email with a link to the on-demand recording when it is ready. This session will convey 1.5 RACE-accredited CE credits to those who attend the live session. No RACE-accredited CE for on-demand viewing. \nView On Demand Here \n——————————————————– \nQuestions? Contact Karen Pautz\, AAEP director of education\, at kpautz@aaep.org.

SUMMARY:Virtual Wednesday Round Table: Biofilm-Based Wound Care Strategies in Chronic Non-Healing Wounds
DESCRIPTION:Equine veterinarians frequently encounter infected or necrotic wounds in daily practice. Recognition of the role that biofilms play in persistence of chronic wounds and lack of response to therapy in horses is increasing. \nIncrease your effectiveness in resolving stubborn equine wounds by joining Dr. Lynn Pezzanite for a discussion of why and how biofilms form\, how to recognize clinical indications that biofilms have formed in equine wounds\, current diagnostic options\, and biofilm-based wound care strategies and wound dressings to eradicate biofilms and facilitate progression of the wound through contraction and epithelialization phases of healing. \nView On Demand Here \n——————————————————– \nThe AAEP Virtual Wednesday Round Tables are interactive sessions held twice monthly on Zoom and led by subject matter experts\, covering both clinical and non-clinical topics. Questions? Contact Karen Pautz\, AAEP director of education\, at kpautz@aaep.org. \nThe 2025 season of Virtual Wednesday Round Tables is sponsored by American Regent Animal Health.
